Pershore boosts female workforce and participation in tennis

On 11th November Pershore Tennis Centre hosted one of three events held by the LTA Midlands to grow and develop the female workforce and participation in tennis around the region.

Sarah McCormick, Club Chair says: “This was a fantastic opportunity to build the profile of women’s tennis and focus attention on women’s sport and Pershore Tennis Centre were happy to play host.”

Teachers and schools from around the county were invited to the event for a women and girls activation through an all-female workforce delivering LTA Youth Schools Teacher Training and female Tennis Leaders courses as part of the weeklong Billie Jean King Cup activities across the Midlands.

The centre played host to 12 high schools, with 17 teachers and 107 girls all taking part.

The H&W schools that participated were:

  • Prince Henry's High School
  • Kingstone High School
  • Christopher Whitehead
  • Pershore High School
  • Bishop Perowne
  • Droitwich Spa High School
  • John Kyrle High School
  • Dyson Perrins CofE Academy
  • Pershore College
  • Hanley Castle High School

The three LTA Youth Leadership Days delivered across the Midlands really scored an ace by:

  • 245 new female LTA Youth Tennis Leaders (120 at Pershore)
  • 42 new LTA Youth Secondary Schools Teachers Trained (16 at Pershore)
  • All competed in LTA Youth Team Challenge – majority for the very first time!
  • Face to face time networking and building relationships with schools and School Games Organisers (SGOs)
  • Giving the girls the confidence to support tennis delivery back at their school and with cluster primary school festivals

Van Willerton, Participation Development Partner at the LTA, extended a “big thank you to our local coaches, venues and  the Midlands Team for all your support.”

Sarah, who was also one of the female coaches delivering the event continued: “It was an incredible day to bring together so many girls interested in tennis and to see them all engaging and enjoying the day, we hope we have inspired the next generation of tennis coaches.”
