Road to Wimbledon National Finals
Earlier this year, players battled it out to become H&W Road to Wimbledon County winners and be awarded the opportunity to compete in the National Finals at Wimbledon in August.
Very well done to Oliwia, Jack, Toby, Ruth and Christian who were representing H&W.
In typical Wimbledon style, there were a few rain showers during the event, which thankfully didn’t dampen the excitement.
A fantastic start for Oliwia who won all 3 of her group matches and went into the main draw as a group winner. Still on form, Oliwia battled through 2 rounds before falling at the QF stages of the event. Pairing up with Annie from Cornwall, the duo made it through to the doubles QF where they lost to the eventual winner.
Jack won 2 out of his 3 group matches to qualify for the main draw in second place, including a 6-0 6-0 win! A tough main draw tie saw Jack loose his first round match. Paired up with H&W player Christian, the lads had a bye in the first round and lost in the 2nd.
Winning 1 of his 3 matches, Christian finished in 3rd place in his group and missed out on main draw qualification. A 2nd round loss in the doubles with H&W player Jack.
Qualifying as a County runner up, Ruth was unable to get a win in the group stage. A bye in the first round of the doubles with partner Jemima and a loss in the 2nd.
Two out of 3 wins for Toby was enough to enter the main draw in second place but was unable to progress any further. A first round loss in the double.
All had excellent singles and doubles matches and learnt a lot from their experiences.
Many thanks to Tony Ravenscroft who was our onsite Wimbledon correspondant, as well looking after his player, providing some ace photos and results for our Facebook page.
