The tournament started with a difficult match against a strong Buckinghamshire side. Despite some inspired performances against top 100 nationally ranked opponents the boys fell to a 4-0 defeat whilst the girls narrowly lost 3-1 with Kiah managing to produce an epic comeback at number 1, winning a second set tiebreak followed by the championship tie break 10-8 to win the match.

Both teams then went on to play against Northamptonshire. The girls produced some excellent displays with both Grace and Mia coming back from 1 set down to win, whilst Leila produced some excellent tennis to win in straight sets and get a 3-1 victory for the team. The boys, keen to respond to their previous defeat bounced back to win all 4 matches with Ollie receiving a bye at number one and Tom, Ayrton and Ollie all producing fine displays to win in straight sets and set up a battle for second in their final match against Bedfordshire.

The girls began their final match against Bedfordshire knowing a win would secure second place. After the first two matches it was 1-1 with Grace winning at number 2 against another strong opponent and Kiah coming out the wrong end of a tight battle against the Bedfordshire number 1. Leila and Mia then stepped up and earned two hard fought wins at 3 and 4 to give H&W a 3-1 win and an excellent second place finish in the group. It was then the boys turn to take on a strong Bedfordshire team. Ollie took on Bedfordshire number 1 in an extremely tight battle with the match lasting nearly 2 hours. Ollie lost a tight first set 5-4 before producing some aggressive tennis moving his opponent around the court to win the second set. The match then hinged on a championship tiebreak to decide the winner. Losing 9-5 in the tiebreak Ollie went into no miss mode with one point lasting 141 shots and managed to save 4 match points to even it up. Unfortunately, Bedfordshire number 1 produced some brave tennis to win the next 2 points to win the match and take the lead. Tom and Ayrton produced some quality tennis at times but couldn’t keep up with the consistency of their opponents. Ollie stepped up and played bravely hitting many winners producing some high quality tennis to produce another comeback win for H&W resulting in a 3-1 loss overall for the boys and a 3rd place finish.

Overall both teams thoroughly enjoyed the event learning many lessons and are taking inspiration to go one better in county cup next year.
