Jan Thomas awarded Meritorious Service Award in the LTA Tennis Awards 2024

We are thrilled to announce that Jan Thomas has been awarded a Meritorious Service Award in the LTA Tennis Awards 2024!

Meritorious Service Awards are given at the discretion of the President for long service to tennis at a County, Regional and National level.

Jan is 1 of 8 individuals who have been awarded the discretionary honour this year and will be presented with her award at the national ceremony on Tuesday 2nd July at the National Tennis Centre.

More about Jan's nomination:

Jan started volunteering in the county over 20 years ago when she took on the running of our Ladies Winter Doubles League in 2004.

Following this, Jan became a member of our then executive committee, a role which she held until last year.

During this time, she has led the league organisers away from the dated processes of posting score cards and teams not knowing their league position, into using League Planner.

This proved to be a huge success with the leagues running more effectively and efficiently with captains inputting their results and players definitely keeping their eyes on the players statistics!! The Summer and Winter leagues continue to grow and flourish with many more teams taking part in the Men’s, Ladies and Mixed leagues.

In 2010, Jan joined the Sponsorship Committee and in 2014 became chair when it was further developed into the Sponsorship & Marketing Team. This is an area where Jan committed countless hours, culminated in her achieving the highest income H&W have ever generated. During the uncertain times around Covid, where many County Associations suffered, Jan worked immensely hard to maintain this income, which was not an easy task.

Jan’s dedication has enabled the county to support venues, coaches and players in areas they would not have been able to previously.

Aside from these key roles, Jan has stepped up and supported so many people and activities including Venue and Coach Forums, County Championships, Worcester City of Tennis Initiative, supporting the She Rallies Ambassador in increasing the number of girls playing tennis, captaining a Ladies Seniors team, and organised a Ladies doubles charity event every year. The list is endless!
