Captain: Chris Marlow
Girls Team: Luna, Lottie, Georgia and Evelina

Arrival:

The team arrived at 9:30am in good time to have a good warm up, hit some balls and prepare for their matches. Thank you to their parents!

After a briefing by the referee the matches got underway at 10:30am.

Round 1 v Buckinghamshire:

Luna and Lottie come out strong. Luna plays Sofia who has a great game with lots of weapons. She makes Luna work hard in the first few games. Luna takes the first set 4-2 using her determination and great court coverage, she then really gets into her stride. Targeting Sofias backhand and keeping a better length Luna wins the second set comfortably 4-0 with an excellent display of consistency! Lottie starts well and is looking strong but Esme fights back to force a tie-break. Both girls are not giving an inch, and both have multiple set points! In a great display of character as well as some excellent topspin on her forehand Lottie wins the tie break 14-12! Gaining in confidence and finding a way to deal with Esme’s low short balls more effectively, Lottie closes the match out 5-4(12) 4-1. Evelina plays a dominant match against Jessica and is serving very well. Evelina controls the match with her attacking play to win 4-2 4-1. Georgia is involved in a battle against Anna. The match has so many deuces and each player is chasing the ball down beautifully, so the rallies were often epic! Geogia takes the match 4-2 5-3 mainly due to her excellent mental toughness! The first round against Buckinghamshire has taken over 3 hours to play! We could be in for a very long day!

Score: H&W Win 4-0

Round 2 v Nottinghamshire

Luna puts in another great display of consistency against Alisia. Alisia is fast around the court and has to be as Luna starts to dropshot the lob with increasing frequency to which Alisia cannot find a solution. Luna wins 4-1 4-0. Lottie is playing great against Emma and seems to be controlling the match well with her superior spin and length on her groundstrokes and goes up a set and 4-1 2-0. Lottie makes a couple of unforced errors and starts to feel a momentum shift as Emma gets a game back. Lottie looks frustrated. She does well to calm her emotions and does well to see out the match 4-1 4-1. Georgia plays a good match against Caitin. Geogia has better consistency and shows a very calm exterior even when there was a discussion on score where Caitin got very upset. Geogia stayed calm and business like to close the match out 4-1 4-1. Evelina is very much in control against Alice who is clearly a less experienced player. Evelina stays focused and even with some double faults and Alice taking the first game of the second set, Evelina puts it behind her quickly to see out the match 4-1 4-1.

Score: H&W Win 4-0

Round 3 v Bedfordshire

Luna plays Jaela who wants to play attacking tennis. Luna is very effective at absorbing the aggressive hitting and waiting for a mistake. Jaela tries to adjust her tempo but then falls victim to Lunas relentless dropshot lob combination. Luna wins comfortably 4-0 4-1. Lottie is serving well and keeping her balls at a good length. Poppy finds in difficult to regularly control the point to put Lottie out of position. Lottie wins 4-1 4-1. Georgia is all business again as she plays Evelyn. Never looking in any doubt with her better level of consistency she wins the first set 4-0. Evelyn improves her tennis but Georgia does well to see out the second set 4-2. Evelina is also very comfortable against Anouska. Staying focused and playing her groundstrokes well into the spaces she dominates and wins 4-0 4-0.

Score: H&W Wins 4-0

In short:

  • 1st Place
  • 100% of matches won – all in 2 sets!
