Arrival:
The team arrived at 9:30am in good time to have a good warm up, hit some balls and prepare for their matches. Thank you to their parents!
After a briefing by the referee the matches got underway at 10:30am.
Round 1 v Buckinghamshire:
Andrew and Sam started off the corby campaign against tricky Buckingham players who were consistent and didn’t give up many mistakes. Andrew tried to control the game hitting aggressive forehands into the corners of the court. The opposition was too consistent though using slice and varying the pace to beat Andrew 4-2 4-2. Sam had more success physically outlasting his opponent and making himself tough to beat winning 4-2 4-1. Up next was William and Harry who both dominated their matches with big serving, big ground strokes and some clever play to win 5-3 4-1 and 4-0 4-2 respectively and a great start to the day for H&W.
Score: H&W Win 3-1
Round 2 v Nottinghamshire
Next up was Nottinghamshire and another couple of tough matches for Andrew and Sam. Sam again on top form was able to use his ability to get behind the ball quickly and keeping really good depth on his shots to win 4-1 4-2. Andrew faced a big hitting player this time who made him move. With the match lasting over an hour it finished as a 4-1 4-2 loss. William faced another regional player who moved him about. William tried to use his powerful forehand to outhit his opponent but he was good at defending and making the ball back in and after a close match it finished 4-2 4-2 to Notts. Harry had a walkover this time as Nottinghamshire had a late withdrawal to their team in the morning of the event and so only had 3 players.
Score: Draw 2-2
Round 3 v Bedfordshire
Andrew this time was determined to get a win and produced some brilliant tennis to get a comfortable 4-1 4-1 win at number 1. Sam had an epic match lasting over 90 minutes with the scores going back and forth with the first set ending in a tiebreak. With some extremely long rallies Sam got the win 5-4 4-1. William made light work of his opponent winning 4-0 4-0 and last match on Harry had another epic winning the first set 4-0 but losing the second 4-1 before coming up with some good tennis in the championship tie break to win 10-4.
Score: H&W Wins 4-0
