County Training Selection Policy 2023-2024
County training groups for 2023-2024 will be selected to work towards the 2024 County Cup events and therefore you may well be training from September in the age group which is the one above your current age group. There may be a few exceptions with some of the younger players.
Selection Policy 11U – 18U
The top 5 ranked players for each age group, girls and boys, will have automatic selection for the training group. The ranking list date for the final selection for the different terms will be published in advance.
3 - 5 further places will be awarded taking into consideration, ranking, WTN, tournament play and coach recommendation.
Any player being invited and accepting a place will also need to:
- Be playing minimum grade 4 competition
- Be having some technical coaching.
- Have county training session as an additional session to their weekly club session
Selection Policy 9U & 10U
As there are no rankings for 9U & 10U players the selection process will consider players’ participation in tournaments, recent form and recommendations from coaches.
Any player being invited and accepting a place will also need to:
- Be having some technical coaching
- Be already competing or looking to compete at minimum level 4 for 10U and minimum level 5 for 9U
- Have county training session as an additional session to their weekly club session
Selection Policy 8U
For 8U players the selection process will consider players’ participation in tournaments and recommendations from coaches or from being seen at the 8U County Open sessions having been nominated by their coach.
Any player being invited and accepting a place will also need to:
- Be having some technical coaching
- Be playing competition which ideally includes some external competition
- Have county training session as an additional session to their weekly club session
We will be expecting all players who take a County Training place to make themselves available for selection for the various county events including taking part in the County Championships. The dates of these will be sent out when they are confirmed.
All selections for County Training will be led by Chris Skinner our County Head Coach. All county training coaches and county cup captains will be a part of the discussions and any players’ individual coach may be contacted by the group where it is felt this may be needed.
Junior Team Selection Policy 2023/4
This is an impartial process led by the Team Captain and supported by a selection panel including the relevant county training coaches, Chris Skinner the Head County Coach and possibly consultation with the players coach if deemed relevant.
This panel can be formed through a formal meeting or through a group email/phone conversation.
County Cup Selection
18U, 14U, 12U, 11U, 10U, 9U
Selection/Nominations
18U - Minimum 6 and a maximum of 10 players (plus potential non travelling reserves)
14U 12U 11U 10U - Minimum 4 and a maximum of 6 players (plus potential non travelling reserves)
9U - Minimum 8 (4 boys and 4 girls mixed team) maximum 10 (plus potential non travelling reserves)
Selection is based on a combination of ranking, rating/WTN and wildcards as follows:
- The selection panel will be looking at both ranking and WTN/ratings as a guide. There will be a given date (relevant to age group of County Cup team) on which the rankings/WTN will be considered. This date has been determined by the county office to allow time for the selection to take place and players being invited with reasonable notice before the event. These dates will be published on the county website. With the increased doubles matches in all age groups team selection will consider the balance of singles and doubles players in their selection.
- 10U & 9U - selection will be based on looking at recent form along with information gained from county training sessions and coach feedback
- Wildcard entry/s is by coach nomination and following a selection panel discussion
- 9U orange players who are eligible to play 10U green ball can be selected for the 10U team ahead of green players if the selection panel deem it appropriate. Similarly, 8U players eligible to play orange will be considered for selection.
- The decision of the selection panel is final and in exceptional circumstances the selection committee reserve the right not to select an individual based on sound and explained reasoning.
Corby Selection
Corby team selection will follow the same guidelines as above although there are no doubles played at Corby.
Each Corby team 18U, 16U, 14U, 12U, 10U will consist of 4 boys with 2 or 3 non travelling reserves and 4 girls with 2 or 3 non travelling reserves.
The 9U team is 4 players, 2 boys and 2 girls (plus 4 non travelling reserves 2 boys and 2 girls).
Please note: With all the selections if there is a tight decision to be made then ranking for the particular age group will be a deciding factor.
